Following the request for donations from fellow Walsall FC supporters to help contribute towards the purchase of waterproof wheelchair ponchos, the response has been tremendous and utterly overwhelming. This will now enable our fellow Saddlers fans who are wheelchair bound to watch matches in a little more comfort, especially during inclement weather.
We have also received a pledge from Homeserve, one of the main sponsors of Walsall Football Club, to contribute toward the purchase of the ponchos.
The DSA shall now purchase at least 15 ponchos and donate one to each and every supporter who was seen by our Chairperson at the match versus Doncaster Rovers on Saturday (15th September 2018). It is our hope that the ponchos will be handed to those supporters at the game on 29th September when Walsall play Accrington Stanley at the Banks's Stadium. It is intended that a small number of ponchos will be held in reserve, and made available to fans who attend occasionally, and to any wheelchair bound visiting supporters in bad weather.
As the total of the pledge and funds received exceeds the cost of the ponchos (total to be made public once all donations are in), the DSA committee will consider other goods and/or services that may be purchased for the benefit of disabled supportes, irrespective of the nature and extent of their disability. To this end, the committee would welcome the opinion of ALL disabled supporters, not just our members, as to what you would like, and what would benefit you on matchdays. Please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org with your thoughts and suggestions.
The DSA committee would like to thank everyone who has donated so generously and unselfishly to this cause, without which, the DSA would not have been able to make a positive contribution in this way.
